New House in Bowness-on-Windermere, Cumbria
Occupying an elevated position overlooking the lake, the house replaces an old 1960’s bungalow on a steeply sloping site.
The brief required that all rooms should have a view towards Lake Windermere and that the major living spaces should also lead onto interlinked external patio spaces facing south and west. Natural daylight was critical throughout the house
The 4 bedroom dwelling achieves this by careful manipulation of split levels and a stepped configuration of rooms to include corner glazed feature windows and external stone paved decks protected by low stainless steel and glass screens.
Traditionally built with insulated cavity block walls, rendered and painted externally, with local blue grey slate to all roofs, the house is heavily glazed using a hybrid aluminium/timber system.
